Life is hard to navigate, especially if you don’t know where to take it, what to commit to, or who you are. But there are things to do and listen to that can help you uncover yourself through the minutiae of today, tomorrow, and yesterday’s obligations.
In my life, writing stories, building a website, and learning how to travel full-time are the things I’ve dedicated my attention to. Sure, I’ve had plenty of slips, bouts of procrastination and failures, but the goal has always been the same: to live my way.
Yet despite years of trial and error, my life isn’t where I want it to be. This might be due to having too many projects going on—the mental equivalent of trying to balance empty cups while juggling water—or it could be because I haven’t fully accepted my choices.
It could also be, however, that a full life is one spent continuously discovering the self.
I’ve pursued interests in teaching, video game development, making YouTube videos, and awkwardly streaming myself playing Minecraft or Skyrim alone in my room. All of these have fallen to the wayside in favor of something that more truly aligns with my vocation, for it is my vocation.
Writing stories, and whatever else comes to mind. This is what I’d rather do instead of anything I’ve mentioned above, but it was through those failed attempts that I found this truth.
If you’re a bit lost, ask yourself what you’d rather do instead of what you’re doing, or what you’ve done, or what you plan to do. Accept and follow the string inside. Feel it tug you toward the vague distance. It will bring you always closer to who you truly are.
Live your way,
Noah
