When to Quit

We need to sometimes, yet can’t help but feel shameful. It eats away at us for months until we do it, until we break free, and when we do there’s no sense in feeling guilty.

Recently, I put in my two-week notice for a job. I’d planned on giving them longer to find a replacement but after chatting with my manager learned someone was hurting for hours. Even so, part of me felt bad for saying I had to go, for quitting.

Yet for months I’d been feeling way too down about life, and my specific job was a huge burden on my mind. I learned the job didn’t align with my vocation, knew it was wearing on my mental health, yet stayed for months and months, feeling bad for myself and doing nothing close to my best. It wasn’t an environment I thrived in, and I overstayed my welcome.

It’s hard to not meet expectations, but obviously, we can’t please everyone, let alone ourselves sometimes, so from this post remember that it’s normal to not fit into some crowds, some jobs. We all need to find our own place in this world, and it is a place we build ourselves.

Live your way,

Noah
